The first “chapter book” my middle granddaughter read on her own was called “My Secret Unicorn,” by Linda Chapman. It’s about a little girl called Lauren and her grey pony, Twilight. Twilight is actually a unicorn in disguise and when Lauren whispers the words of the Transforming Spell, he changes into his alter ego of a magic white unicorn who can fly, talk to animals and do other magical things. Together they travel the world doing good deeds and helping people.
If you think about it, that was what we were created for too. Maybe not travelling the world, but doing good works and helping people. “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10 NIV)
Isn’t that an exciting calling? You could say, we are angels in disguise. I know such things are possible because Hebrews 13:2 reads, “Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” (Hebrews 13:2 ESV)
How different life might be if this is how we regarded ourselves – Angels in Disguise! It might seem, almost, … magical!
Lord Jesus, the Bible tells me quite clearly what my purpose is in life. Please renew my mind by Your Spirit that I may be no longer conformed to the pattern of this world but rather transformed to what You created me to be. Amen.
