Living Water

For my birthday, my three children clubbed together to buy me a birdbath. t

Two concrete birds perch around the edge.

It will take a while before birds visit the bath. They are suspicious of new things suddenly appearing. So, for the moment at least, there is a generous supply of cooling water and no birds slaking their thirst or cooling their feathers.

Jesus said, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” (John 7:37-38 NIV) “By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive.” (38b)

The offer is for anyone and everyone. Just like the bird bath is for all birds. But not many will come, whether from suspicion, disbelief or pride in their own ability to cope.

I like to think of “rivers of living water” as fountains – an endless supply of water with energy and power. I picture a solar fountain spurting like a whale in the middle of my bird bath.

My Prayer

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for Your gift of the Holy Spirit. Please continue to fill me that I may be a source of refreshing and life to others. Amen.
